Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker and the version by the great jazz musician Duke Ellington meet under the mistletoe and take the traditional tale out for a spin in this free adaptation. The classic Christmas that Clara was expecting then takes a completely jazzy turn when her uncle Drosselmeyer gives her a robotic nutcracker that can be programmed and deprogrammed. In Clara’s dream, the rhythms go off-kilter, the Sugar Plum Fairy starts to swing, and everyone dances to a new beat!
